Week 1: LEARNING HOW TO MAKE HS MEDIA

      Week one for me consisted of being trained on how to make the basic HS Media and learning how to swatch/streak.  It is a very basic task but requires a lot of materials and have to be measured correctly.  Materials:     I used 150 mL of distilled water, yeast extract, agar, sodium chloride, etc. I excluded out glucose. The materials must be measured precisely using grams.  Process: I placed the mixed solution inside an autoclave for it to dissolve the materials completely. In addition to that, I then placed the media onto a stir plate starting from low heat to medium high. Letting it cool down to avoid warping the petri dish when I pour it in. Once I have successfully poured and let it solidify, I turned it upside down to avoid any moisture that can go in and I labeled the lid with my initials and the project I will be working on.  This is an example of what my mentor, Ryan, have made as I watched.  There are different types o...
